Tesco – Fruitastic Trip

26th April 2012

Dear Parents/Carers,
As part of our Fruitastic topic we shall be visiting Tesco on Tuesday 8th May 2012. The children will have a fantastic opportunity to look at how the fruit and vegetables are stored both on the shop floor and behind the scenes. We will look at where the different fruit and vegetables have been delivered from and they will also get an opportunity to try a range of different fruits.
Your child will need to come to school in their school uniform and bring a packed lunch in a suitable bag for them to carry around with them whilst at Tesco. Do not forget to include a water bottle.
Tesco are offering us this opportunity for free, so all we will be asking for is money for the coach. The cost of this trip is therefore just £6.50. This is a voluntary contribution and no child will be excluded from the trip because their parents are unwilling or unable to pay. However, if insufficient contributions are received the trip may be cancelled. Please complete and return the attached slip, together with your voluntary contribution, as soon as possible and by Wednesday 2nd May at the latest please. (Cheques should be made payable to Great Wilbraham Primary School’).
We look forward to sharing our news about our trip through photos and information on the school website.

Newsletter April 2012

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back and I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter. This term our topic is ‘Fruitastic’.

Apologies for not being in school for the end of term. Dates and times for Parents Evening are at the bottom of the newsletter. If these dates or times are not convenient, then please feel free to email me and we can arrange a more convenient time.

Please also note that our class assembly will now be on Thursday 3rd May. I hope you will all be able to attend.

Hopefully the weather will stay nice and warm, so please can you ensure your child has the suitable clothes at school including a sun hat. Please can you also ensure your child has a pair of named wellies and a named raincoat with a hood (just in case).

Also now the weather is getting warmer it is essential that you make sure your child brings in a named water bottle for the classroom in order to keep them hydrated which keeps their brains active. We have no spare cups in the classroom and it dispupts Key Stage 2 if they use the water fountain.

Just a reminder that Pegasus class has P.E. on a Monday afternoon with Dragon class, so please can you ensure your child has the correct clothes on a Monday and if they have long hair please ensure it is all tied up on a Monday. We shall be outside this term, so shorts, t-shirt, trainers and P.E. socks with the extras of a spare jumper and tracksuit bottoms in case we have cold weather.

Thank you to those parents who are commenting on their child’s Home Activity. Please continue as this is really useful to help with your child’s development.

I want to say a huge thank you to those parents who come in and help listen to readers. If anyone else is interested in helping listening to readers please let me know.

Show and Tell for this term will be:

  • Tuesday – Year 1 girls
  • Thursday – Foundation Stage
  • Friday – Year 1 boys

Please remember your child’s Show and Tell must fit in their book bag with the Velcro fastened, still no DVD’s and also get your child to think of new items to bring in as we are getting a lot of Show and Tell items repeated week after week.

Just a reminder that at the beginning of the day the playground will be open from 8.40am where a member of staff will be on duty. At 8.50am the children will be collected from the playground and taken into the classroom. Remember your child (especially those in Year 1) need to be more independent, so I recommend them organising their items for school and to carry their own book bags/lunchboxes to and from school.

This term I shall be implementing what I have learnt during my PANCo course. If you would like any information on nutrition or physical activities please let me know.

If you need to contact me in any way please email me on: lnewington@greatwilbraham.cambs.sch.uk  I shall check my emails first thing in the morning, at lunchtime and at the end of the day. If a response is required I will do so as soon as possible.

On 27th February Pegasus class were lucky enough to visit Anglesey Abbey to visit the story circle as part of their Magic Key topic. They had to find the secret door in the woods before they were able to listen to stories, share their favorite stories and act out stories with a variety of props. The children (and staff) had a lovely day and luckily the weather held out. Everyone was so inspired by the surroundings they came back and wrote some lovely Magic Key stories.

Gardening Appeal

Dear Parents/Carers,

Now the weather is getting better and the growing season is upon us Pegasus class are looking into growing our own fruit and vegetables again. If you have any spare plant pots (any shapes and sizes), seed labels, seeds, bulbs, compost, watering cans, old wellington boots, or anything for the garden that you do not need any more and would not mind giving to our class we would very much appreciate it.

We are looking into setting up our own fruit and vegetable stall once our plants have grown to raise money for the class, so any help/resources would be fantastic.

Thank you very much.
